Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain interpolation arithmetic operation of image data so that an edge part extending in an oblique direction of an original image will not be interpolated in step form in the case of expanding the original image.
SOLUTION: An interpolation coefficient calculation means 3 calculates an interpolation coefficient in an interpolation picture element based on original image data entered by an image entry means 2, a means 4 calculates the gray level vector of an original image in the interpolation picture element and calculates a distance between the line segment orthogonal to the gray level vector and an original picture element used for interpolation. A correction term calculation means 5 calculates a correction term to correct the interpolation coefficient based on the magnitude of the gray level vector and the distance between the line segment orthogonal to the density vector and the original picture element used for interpolation. A correction means 7 obtains interpolation image data based on the corrected interpolation coefficient. The interpolation image data are reproduced as a visual image by an image output means 8.
