An electronic camera attaches, to image data, collateral information thereof as header data of the respective image data. Upon reception of the image data from the electronic camera, a PC stores, for instance, a correspondence file between a file name of the image data and the collateral information in an HDD. Similarity Y of a picture of the image data is calculated based on pattern information NX and read pattern information MX; when the calculated similarity Y is larger than a threshold value being a reference value of the similarity of the picture, N-th image data are added to a group of M-th image data; and when the M-th image does not belong to other groups, a new group is created with the N-th image data and the M-th image data.
