To display a high quality image by correcting and uniformizing variation of electron emission characteristics in an image display apparatus in which a plurality of electron emission elements are arranged.
In a display panel 101 having the plurality of arranged electron emission elements and phosphors, a pulse width modulated driving signal having a plurality of voltage amplitude values according to an image data is applied to electron emission elements and an image is displayed. A correction table for correcting emission luminance variation according to each electron emission element when a predetermined voltage is applied, is held in a correction table holding circuit 110. By multiplying a gain corresponding to a modification level to a correction table value, a correction factor when a voltage having the plurality of voltage amplitude values is applied, is calculated. In a correction image data calculation circuit 112, by multiplying the correction factor to the image data, correction image data are formed and outputted and the display panel is driven.
