The apparatus satisfies 0.3S1≤s1≤0.003A or 0.3S2≤s2≤0.003A, where A is an inner cross sectional area of the vacuum container taken along a plane parallel with the first substrate, S1 is a total area of an end portion of the spacer that is close to and faces toward the first substrate, S2 is a total area of an end portion of the spacer that is close to and faces toward the second substrate, s1 is an actual contact area between the spacer and the first electrode, and s2 is an actual contact area between the spacer and the second electrode.
