Abstract:

To provide a thin, lightweight and high-luminance backlight unit high in luminance uniformity; and an image display device using it.

This image display device is provided with: a backlight unit including a plurality of light sources 1 arranged in a planar form, a reflecting part 30 reflecting light from the light sources, and a diffusion part 5 diffusing the light from the light sources and the light reflected by the reflecting part; and a liquid crystal display part 10 to which light diffused by the diffusion part of the backlight unit is incident. The reflecting part is provided with first reflecting parts 3 each having a diffusive reflection function, and second reflecting parts 4 higher in directivity of reflected light than the first reflecting parts.
