Abstract:

To realize light image display by effectively using illumination light emitted by a light source.

An image display device is equipped with: an illumination device having the light source 24; a modulating element 31 which spatially modules the illumination light projected by the illumination device according to a display image and transmits or reflects it; a projection lens which forming the image of the modulating element 31; a 1st reflecting element 6 which reflects unnecessary light which does not lights up the modulating element 31 in the luminous flux projected from the illumination device; and a 2nd reflecting element 14 which reflects the unnecessary light reflected by the 1st reflecting element 6 to the modulating element 31, the 1st reflecting element 6 being provided in the modulating element 31.
