PURPOSE: To increase the rigidity of a vertically focusing electrode and form fair images free from any luminance difference and vertical strings by forming slits in the vertically focusing electrode and providing each of the slits with at least one crosspiece vertical to the longitudinal direction of the slits.
CONSTITUTION: A vertically focusing electrode 14 has slits 14aW14d which correspond to horizontal linear hot cathodes 2. The slits 14a, 14b, 14c and 14d have crosspieces 14k, 14l, 14m, 14n, 14o, 14p and 14q which are vertical to the longitudinal direction of the slits 14aW14d. The crosspieces 14k, 14l, 14m, 14n, 14o, 14p and 14q are installed at random so that the positions of the crosspieces of each slit do not coincide with those of adjacent slits.
