To provide an image display and an image display method, capable of displaying on the display, an image that matches the viewing field angle of an imaging person/field angle, at imaging, without having to set the zoom magnification or the display position by the operation of a user.
A screen information acquiring part acquires screen sizes W, H from the display via an HDMI cable, and an image size calculating part calculates the optimum viewing and listening distance WL, based on the acquired screen size H; calculates image sizes CPx, CPy which are brought into the view field which is identical to that when imaged, when it is displayed on the display; and cuts out a picked-up image, based on the calculated image sizes CPx, CPy and output to the display.
