In the image display projector 1, the projection lens 32 includes a protective cap 5 covering the front of the lens. The housing 11 includes an inlet 12 to take in outside air to remove heat generated in the housing 11 and an outlet 13 to discharge the warmed air to the outside of the housing 11. Each of the inlet 12 and the outlet 13 internally includes a shutter mechanism 6 to close it. It is so constructed that the protective cap 5 can rotate after being mounted on the projection lens 32 and that the shutter mechanisms 6 close and open according to the rotation of the protective cap 5.
