The magnification or scale reduction of the display image is performed in the horizontal direction of the display image, according to the selection of an image magnification mode or an image scale reduction mode. Address conversion pulses in numbers corresponding to the set value being set in a magnification setting register 5 are outputted dispersedly to horizontal address positions, where they do not change the visual feeling of display of the display image from an address converting circuit 6. In those address positions, display dots are inserted repeatedly at least once or the display dots are thinned out at least once, where the display image is magnified or scaled reduction in horizontal direction. Thus, it becomes possible to display the image of the same horizontal size with the same number of dots, without depending upon the format of an electronic device, and to perform image display optimum in visual feeling, by changing and adjusting the horizontal magnification of the display image, using simple constitution.
