PURPOSE: To speed up moving of an engraving machine in the forward and backward directions and to shorten the engraving time by mounting the engraving machine on a stage moving back and forth, arranging a belt on the upper face of the stage to move back and forth, and holding the belt at the side end of the stage by a lever.

CONSTITUTION: A slide table D onto which cards C or the like are fixedly mounted is reciprocated right and left by an engraving stage driving device 1. An image A is to be engraved to the cards C or the like. Moreover, an engraving machine G is placed opposed to the cards C. When a cutter head G' is driven up and down, the cards C are engraved. The engraving machine G is integrally installed on a stage 13 reciprocating back and forth. At the same time, a belt 23 movable back and forth is provided at the upper face of the stage 13. A lever 25 is pivotally supported on the stage 13 in the rotatable fashion in the up-and-down direction. The side end of the stage 13 is held by the belt 23. Accordingly, mainly the engraving machine G can be sent to or returned from the engraving starting point at high speeds, and the engraving time to the cards C can be shortened.
