To enable to appropriately evaluate and inspect the luminance unevenness of discharge cell unit occurring in a plasma display panel by distinguishing it from disconnection due to contact failure.
The image evaluation method comprises a step in which an image of the plasma display panel is photographed by an imaging means and an isolation point removal processing is applied to the image photographed, a step in which a peripheral comparison processing is applied wherein the values based on the differential between the image data of the object pixel and the image data of the peripheral pixel are made the image data of the object pixel, a step in which binary processing is applied for extracting as a detection part the region in which a pixel having the image data in a prescribed relation with an established threshold exists, and a step in which, thereafter the detection part is determined whether it is a non-lighting region or not and the image of the plasma display panel is evaluated.
