A beam scanning means BS for scanning a light beam emitted from the semiconductor laser element to a photoreceptor, and a laser driving means for driving the semiconductor laser element, are provided. In the image exposure device constituted so as to change the driving current of the semiconductor laser element in accordance with an image signal inputted, the laser driving means measures current-optical output characteristics in the set current range of the semiconductor laser element. Based on the measurement information, a laser output managing means for setting a correspondence relation between the inputted image signal in the laser driving means and the driving current of the semiconductor laser element is provided.
