PURPOSE: To set the format of a mark sheet used for storing and retrieving the documents and images and to easily and surely store and retrieve the documents and images by enabling a user to register and change the format of the mark sheet.
CONSTITUTION: This storing/retrieving device is provided with an image input device (reader part) 1, an image output device (printer part) 2 and an external device 3 which has various functions. The device 3 includes a file part 5, an external storage device 6 connected to the part 5, and a core part 10 which controls various functions. Furthermore an operating means is added to enable a user to set the format of a mark sheet, together with a means which registers the set format of the mark sheet in a file control area of a recording medium and a means which reads the format of the mark sheet out of the storage medium and outputs a mark sheet of the set format. So that an optimum mark sheet is easily outputted when the documents and images are stored and retrieved.
