Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide an image formation optical system which uses a light valve as an image display device and can project an image having good picture quality by using a dichroic mirror. CONSTITUTION:The dichroic mirror M1 is composed of two equal-thickness parallel plane plates which are joined together on their surfaces where light splitting films are formed and a cylindrical lens S is installed between an image forming lens L and the dichroic mirror M1. Astigmatism generated when light is transmitted through the dichroic mirror M1 is compensated by only the single cylindrical lens S and eliminated and thickness which is large enough to hold the surface precision of a light splitter excellent can be secured.
