PURPOSE: To speed up an image former as well as raise the accuracy of the image former by providing two or more platens to a feeder for a material to be transferred and also two or more recording heads in the face of one platen for a thermal transfer type image former.

CONSTITUTION: A paper P from a paper supply cassette 35 is engaged on the lower side platen 30b under the guidance of a feeding roller group 46, and passed through image transfer sections 32d and 32c by rotation of the platen 30b. Yellow is transferred by a thermal head 47 and a thermal transfer ribbon 48, and then Magenta color is transferred in the image transfer section 32c. The paper P is then engaged on the upper side platen 30a, and passed through image transfer sections 32a and 32b, where cyanine and black colors are each transferred. The paper so transferred is discharged to a paper discharge tray 44. The image formation speed can thus be raised, and clear-cut pictures free of color shift can be obtained.
