To improve copying speed in a color image forming apparatus.
The image forming apparatus for forming a color image by superposition of N colors is provided with an extraction part extracting hues of respective colors for acquiring N colors from inputted image information; a frequency decomposition part decomposing at least one hue among hues into high-frequency components and low-frequency components; and a multiple color density conversion part which density-converts the decomposed low-frequency components on one hue and outputs a signal for forming the image of a first color, constituting N colors and a color component of a second color whose hue is the same as the first color, an addition part adding the decomposed high-frequency component on one hue to the second color component outputted from the density conversion part and outputting a signal for forming the image of the second color and a control part switching image forming speed and resolution with a signal for forming the image of the first color and a signal for forming the image of the second color and controlling the superposition, based on the first and second colors.
