To provide an image forming apparatus that performs speedy drum belt separating operation in timing where a color mode is selected on a console panel and a document is detected by a sensor etc.
The image forming apparatus comprises an operation section 40 for indicating monochromatic image formation of a document image, an automatic document feeding section 16 which detects a document being inserted by a first sensor 17 and automatically conveys the document, a read section 1 which detects the document conveyed by the automatic document feeding section or a document placed directly on an original platen by a second sensor 18 to read an image of the document, an image formation section 2 which forms an image on a recording medium based upon the image of the document by using Y, M, C, and K photoreceptor drums, and a control section 30 which separates the Y, M, and C drums from the Y, M, C, and K photoreceptor drums in the timing wherein the operation section has received an indication for monochromatic image formation and the first sensor or second sensor detects the document, and performs control for forming a monochromatic image of the document on the recording medium only by the K drum.
