To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method that can extend a service life of consumables.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 is provided with: a print data size acquisition unit 72 that receives print data size information indicating a size per page of print data formed on a sheet; a print data receiving unit 74 that receives the print data per page; a conversion time calculation unit 76 that, on the basis of the print data size information, calculates conversion time required for converting data before conversion into print data of a predetermined page in a host device; and a printing control unit 78 that, when forming first print data included in the print data on the front face and the back face of an n-th sheet Pn and second print data included in the print data on an n+1-th sheet Pn+1, if the conversion time of the second print data is equal to or less than a threshold, performs two-page stack printing of forming the second print data on the n+1-th sheet Pn+1 while holding the n-th sheet Pn having the first print data formed on the front face on the conveyance path.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
