To provide an image forming apparatus and a process cartridge which is capable of suppressing a charging sound up to a level of causing no problem in a practical use without using a means of raising a cost as the means for suppressing the charging sound generated when a charging member subjects an electrophotographic photoreceptor to application charging by superposing an alternating voltage to a direct voltage, has an excellent output image and facilitates the recycling of the mounted electrophotographic photoreceptor.
The image forming apparatus is provided with the electrophotographic photoreceptor, a charging means, an image exposure means, a developing means, a transfer means and a cleaning means. The charging member of the charging means is composed of a main body part made of resin comprising a shaft part and conductive agent, is disposed oppositely in noncontact with the electrophotographic photoreceptor and subjects the electrophotographic photoreceptor to application charging in the noncontact state by superposing an alternating voltage to a direct voltage. When the gap between the charging member and the electrophotographic photoreceptor is G (μm) and the accuracy of outer diameter deviation upon the rotation by means of the center shaft of the electrophotographic photoreceptor is set to be A (μm), the image forming apparatus satisfies the relation; 10μm≤G-A≤90μm.
