The image forming apparatus includes: at least one light emitting head (LED head 12) including a plurality of light emitting elements (LED chips 56); a counter (number of light emitting times counting part 500) counting the number of lighting times of each light emitting element; a first storage (counted value storage part 501) storing the counting result by the counter as a counted value; a second storage (cumulative value storage part 502) updating and storing a cumulative value, whenever the counted value stored in the first storage reaches a predetermined set threshold; and a determinator (reuse determination part 503) determining propriety of the reuse of the light emitting head, based on the cumulative value stored in the second storage.
