To provide an image forming apparatus capable of judging, in more proper timing, that the apparatus is full of recovered waste, and to urge the replacement of a cleaning means, taking a quantity of recovered waste into consideration.
Even if the state detected by a sensor is full (S403: YES), the image forming apparatus sets a storage state to a near-full state (S409) based on an estimated quantity of recovery counted up accompanying a toner forming operation, unless an estimated quantity of recovery is equal to or greater than the smallest quantity X ensuring printing (S403: NO). If the state detected by the sensor is a nearly-full state (S411: YES), the image forming apparatus sets the storage state to a nearly-full state (S415) unless the estimated quantity of recovery is equal to or greater than the largest estimated quantity Y of recovery (S413: NO) even if the estimated quantity of recovery is not equal to or greater than the smallest quantity X ensuring printing. If the estimated quantity of recovery is equal to or greater than the largest estimated quantity Y of recovery (S413: YES), the apparatus sets the storage state to a full state (S407).
