The image forming apparatus 100 includes an image forming section 43 that forms a toner image transferred to an image area of an image carrier 20 and a correction toner image T transferred to an non-image area thereof; a detection sensor 30 that detects density information of the correction toner image T; and a control section 40 that exerts stabilization control by correcting image forming conditions based on the density information of the correction toner image T. In the image forming apparatus 100, the control section 40 forms a plurality of correction toner images T of different densities over a plurality of image non-image areas, and if receiving second information during the stabilization control, the control section 40 continuously forms on the image carrier 20 correction toner images T remaining without being formed. and after detecting the density information of the correction toner images T formed continuously, the control section 40 terminates the processing operation for the current stabilization control.
