To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of performing image adjustment without wasting user's own paper, and of preventing deterioration in a photoreceptor due to filming.
In the image forming apparatus, paper is conveyed without being carried on a belt in a plurality of image transfer parts comprising a photoreceptor 11 and a transfer roller 13, and an image is transferred onto the paper. The image forming apparatus includes an image-adjusting and cleaning sheet S that is a sheet for transferring a toner pattern image for image adjustment, and can clean a surface of the photoreceptor 11, and a accommodating path C in which the sheet S is accommodated. The sheet S is accommodated in the accommodating path C during normal printing operation and is fed to the image transfer parts during image adjustment and during cleaning the photoreceptor 11, where the toner pattern image is transferred to the sheet S, or the sheet S cleans a surface of the photoreceptor 11, according to the relative difference between conveying speed of the sheet S and the circumferential speed of the photoreceptor 11. The sheet S used for image adjustment or cleaning is restored to an original accommodating position and is reused.
