An image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor drum 41 in which a band-like toner image is formed; an intermediate transfer belt 60 and secondary transfer roller 83 for transferring the band-like toner image formed in the photoreceptor drum to paper; a fixing section 90 for fixing the band-like toner image transferred to the paper; a density detection sensor 30 for detecting the density of the sub-scanning direction of the band-like toner image fixed to the paper; a storage section 23 for storing rotating member diameter information, showing the diameter of a plurality of rotating members; a control section 110 that conducts FFT(Fast-Fourier Transformation) analyses of the density of the sub-scanning direction of the band-like toner image and executes processing of specifying a rotating member as a generating factor of periodic density fluctuation of the sub-scanning direction based on the FFT analysis result and the rotating member diameter information, and an operation display section 4 for reporting information on the processing result by the control section.
