To provide an image forming apparatus which can avoid breakage to a cover member or an extension device even if removal of the cover member is failed from an apparatus body in installing the extension device on the apparatus body.
The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming apparatus body (10) having an image forming part, a paper carrying path for carrying paper provided for execution of image formation by the image forming part and a cover member (16) covering the outside of the apparatus body to constitute a design surface; a body paper feed unit (11) formed integrally with the apparatus body to constitute the bottom face (14) of the apparatus body; an extension paper feed unit (60) having a top face (62) constituted detachably from the apparatus body and facing the bottom face and storing paper sheets by stacking them in the thickness direction; and a delivery mechanism (64) installed on the extension paper feed unit, protruding from the top face toward the bottom face and delivering paper on the extension paper feed unit onto the paper carrying path. The cover member retreats by accompanying a contact with the delivery mechanism.
