To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a cleaning roller that prevents contamination substances from being accumulated and has sufficient durable performance.
A cleaning roller 70 is provided for a charging roller which charges a photoreceptor of the image forming apparatus. The cleaning roller 70 cleans the charging roller by rotating together with and in contact with the charging roller. In this case, the cleaning roller 70 includes a cylindrical foam body 72 that has long-shaped foam cells 73 whose longitudinal directions are aligned with each other. The cleaning roller 70 is disposed so that the alignment direction of the foam cells 73 crosses the direction of the core material 71 of the cleaning roller 70. Accordingly, the shape of the openings of the foam cells 73 that are open in the surface of the cleaning roller 70 and the compressibility of the cleaning roller 70 in a radial direction are anisotropic. By virtue of vibration, or the like, based on the anisotropy, the cleaning roller 70 maintains cleaning capability for a long time and excels in durability.
