Abstract:

To prevent an error detection of a full waste toner collection box.

An image forming apparatus comprises: an intermediate transfer belt 20 to which a toner image on photoreceptor drums 11 is transferred; cleaners 14, 23 which remove waste toner from the photoreceptor drums 11 and the intermediate transfer belt 20; a waste toner collection box 50 which includes a first collection port 58-1 for collecting toner on the photoreceptor drums 11, a second collection port 58-2 for collecting toner on the intermediate transfer belt 20, conveyance means 64 for conveying toner beyond a storage upper limit of a storage chamber 61 to a detection chamber 67 connected to the storage chamber 61 for storing the collected toner, and a sensor 69 for detecting the toner in the detection chamber 67; and a CPU 32 which controls a route so that toner derived from a toner band is collected from a collection port 58 farthest from the detection chamber 61 in a toner conveyance direction by the conveyance means 64.
