Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of efficiently removing foreign matters from a residual toner on the basis of the smoothness of a recording medium, so as to suppress the occurrence of abnormal images such as scumming and toner drop even when the residual toner is reused.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 includes toner conveying means for conveying a residual toner removed from the surface of an image carrier 3 after a toner image formed on the image carrier 3 is transferred to a recording medium 9, and foreign matter removing means for removing foreign matters from the residual toner conveyed by the toner conveying means. The image forming apparatus 1 further includes smoothness detection means 80 for detecting the smoothness of the recording medium 9, and control means 85 for controlling the foreign matter removing means according to the smoothness detected by the smoothness detection means 80 and/or the accumulated value of various degrees of smoothness accumulated in the course of the operation of the foreign matter removing means.
