PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption when thermally fixing toner images formed on recording sheets to the recording sheets.SOLUTION: When, of recording sheets P1 to P3 that are consecutively conveyed, the recording sheets P1 and P2 include a standard heating area Sr to be heated at a standard fixing temperature T1, and the recording sheet P3 includes the standard heating area Sr to be heated at the standard fixing temperature T1 and a high-temperature heating area Hr to be heated at a high fixing temperature T2 higher than the standard fixing temperature T1, an image forming apparatus sets a heating start timing tp with a heater so that the heating temperature of the recording sheet P3 reaches the high fixing temperature T2 at a timing at which the high-temperature heating area Hr in a first recording sheet P3 including the high-temperature heating area Hr reaches a fixing nip Nf, and starts heating to the high fixing temperature T2 from the set heating start timing tp.
