PURPOSE: To easily form image information on a sidelong banner or guide plate using long-size paper by providing a mechanism which separates a pair of rollers when the existence of a non-image area in a subscanning direction is detected for a prescribed period.

CONSTITUTION: In a case where the existence of a non-image area in the direction corresponding to the subscanning direction is detected for a fixed length of time, the pair of rollers are separated by the control part of a printer when the part of long-size paper corresponding to the man-image area of read image information passes through a fixing part. That is, by turning an eccentric cam 31 by the driving force, as of a motor, a pressure lever 29 is pushed down against the force of a pressure spring 30, so that the energization of the heat roller 26 and the pressure roller 27 is released. Thus, since continuous paper is pulled only by a single carrying means, distortions accumulated in the continuous paper are removed, and the occurrences of skewing and wrinkling can be prevented.
