To provide the image forming device, the image forming method, the copying machine and the copying method in which an precise position of a projected part of an original such as tab paper or sort paper, especially a length of the tab is detected without avoiding cost increase to the utmost.
The device is made up of a line memory 166 that stores an original image read by a prescribed line number and an original position/tab position detection section 165 that latches a position at which a black level is changed at first into a white level on a specific line of an original image read from the line memory 166, latches a position at which a white level is changed at last into a black level on the specific line of the original image read from the line memory 166, and detects the position of the projection of the original based on the comparison of results of a plurality of black white edge latching or on the comparison of results of a plurality of white black edge latching after repeating the latching till the tail end of the original.
