Abstract:

To improve a problem that, when a pattern for detecting impact position deviation is formed on a conveyor belt, an irregular state of recording head nozzles prevents a correct pattern from being formed and causes reduction in the accuracy for detecting the pattern and the accuracy for correcting the impact position deviation.

A recording head 24 for discharging droplets is mounted on a carriage 23 to form an image on a sheet 12 to be conveyed. A pattern 400 for detecting impact position deviation (a reference pattern 400a and a pattern 400b to be measured) is formed on a conveyor belt 31. Each of the patterns 400a and 400b is read by a pattern reading sensor 401 mounted on the carriage 23. When the impact position deviation of the droplets from the recording head 24 is corrected based on the reading result, the pattern 400 is formed after performing blank discharge from the recording head 24 for forming the pattern 400.
