To obtain an image forming device which transfers a visible image from a latent-image holder to an image carrier at high efficiency and, at the same time, reduces stick of solvent to paper, ensures high image quality, environmental friendliness, and a long life, by providing a releasing-agent coating means which coats the image holder with a releasing agent prior to a developing means.
Before a color image is obtained, a releasing-agent layer is applied onto a latent-image holder 1 by a releasing-agent application device 9. The releasing- agent application device 9 is filled with a releasing agent in which fine particles of polyethylene wax with a constituent that hardly sticks to a latent-image holder, for example a carboxyl group, introduced as a side chain is dispersed in an insulating solvent and a proper amount of metallic soap is added to it, thereby imparting electrifying capability to the fine particles of wax. Such the releasing agent is employed, and the releasing agent is applied to a toner image by the action of an electric field. For example, a releasing-agent application roller 11 with a 20-mm outside diameter made of metal is disposed on the latent-image holder 1 with an interspace of 150 μm between them and it is rotated in the same direction as the latent-image holder or the opposite direction to it, thereby supplying the releasing agent 10 to the toner image.
