A cleaning member 11 consisting of a fur brush and a bias roller or the like and a contact electrifying member 14, consisting of a metallic roller or the like of a cleaning unit 10 are disposed in one cleaning unit case 15. Thus, the members 11 and 14 are simultaneously made to contact with/ separate from an intermediate transfer belt 16, functioning as an intermediate transfer body by one contact/separation mechanism, and the structure of the intermediate transfer belt cleaning unit 10 is simplified. Then, many of the component parts of a driving system for driving the members 11 and 14 and a control system can be used in common, so that the driving torque of the contact/separation mechanism is made lower and the device becomes advantageous also in terms of the design of a control circuit than in the case the members 11 and 14 are disposed individually.
