A main control par 11 judges, by a detecting output from a recording paper detecting sensor 19, whether or not recording papers are charged in a recording paper cassette 16. When an image is formed on a recording paper by a recording part 15, a pickup roller 18 of a recording paper feed part 17 is rotated and recording papers are fed from the recording paper cassette 16. While the recording papers are fed, the main control part 11 does not refer to a detecting output from the recording paper detecting sensor 19 and maintains a state before a feed of the recording paper. This constitution prevents occurrence of erroneous detection of running out of the recording papers by a detecting output from the recording paper detecting sensor 19 unstable during a feed of the recording papers.
