To securely removes a large amount of residual toner on an intermediate transfer body without using a complex and expensive cleaner.
The image forming device is provided with the intermediate transfer body 2 disposed opposite to an image carrier 1 on which a toner image T is formed and held, a primary transfer means 3 which receives a primary transfer bias applied thereto and transfers the toner image T on the image carrier 1 onto the intermediate transfer body 2, and a secondary transfer means 4 which receives a secondary transfer bias applied thereto and transfers the toner image on the intermediate transfer body 2 onto a recording medium K, an image carrier blade 5 which is disposed in pressure contact with the image carrier 1 and removes residual toner on the image carrier 1, and an intermediate transfer blade 6 which is disposed so as to freely come into contact with the intermediate transfer body 2 and move apart therefrom and which removes residual toner on the intermediate transfer body 2. In the image forming device, an opposite bias application means 7 is provided for applying an opposite bias, the polarity of which is opposite to that of the primary transfer bias and the absolute value of which is smaller than the primary transfer bias, to the primary transfer means 3.
