An image forming device comprises: an endless belt member 21 pivotably supported by a plurality of supporting rollers; detecting means 60 for optically detecting a member to be detected on the endless belt member 21 on a surface of the endless belt member 21, of which a back surface side is supported by any supporting roller 24b of the plurality of supporting rollers; and determination means for determining whether or not the endless belt member 21 is present based on an output of the detecting means 60 in the case where the detecting means 60 detects at least one of the endless belt member 21 or the supporting roller 24b.
