Abstract:
An image forming apparatus (100) includes an image bearing member (1a to 1d), a conductive member (30, 37), a bias application device (41, 45), and a control portion (90). The image bearing member (1a to 1d) has a photosensitive layer formed on an outer peripheral surface thereof. The conductive member (30, 37) is disposed so as to make contact with an inner peripheral surface of the image bearing member (1a to 1d) and has a dielectric property. The bias application device (41, 45) applies a bias including an alternating current bias to the conductive member (30, 37). The control portion (90) controls the bias application device (41, 45). The image forming apparatus (100) is capable of executing a heating-up mode in which an alternating current bias having a peak-to-peak value twice or more as large as a discharge start voltage between the conductive member (30, 37) and the image bearing member (1a to 1d) is applied to the conductive member (30, 37) to cause the surface of the image bearing member (1a to 1d) to be heated up.
