PURPOSE: To correctly reproduce the colors of an original picture or desired colors by identifying the color components of a carried transfer material and correcting the amounts of toners sticking to an electrostatic image incorporating color of the transfer material based on this color information.

CONSTITUTION: A identification means 42 identifies the color components of the transfer material S carried by a carrying means 23. A control means 60 controls the sticking amounts of toners, to the transfer material S in such a manner that when the quantity of toner is incorporated with color components among the identified color components is large the quantity of sticking of toner to the transfer material S of the toner incorporating the identified color components among the identified color components is small. On the contrary, the sticking quantity to the transfer material S of the toner incorporating the identified components is large when the quantity of components among identified components is small. Thus, the light transmitting toners can be used, and an image having desired colors can be obtained irrespective of the color of the transfer material.
