PURPOSE: To easily make the diameter of a drum smaller while using an electroluminescence(EL) head by arranging an exposing means so that it may approach or contact to the inner peripheral surface of the drum and omitting a focusing lens such as a 'SELFOC(R)' lens or the like.

CONSTITUTION: The exposing means which generates light output corresponding to image information is arranged on the rear surface side of a photosensitive body 1 constituted by laminating a light transmissive conductive layer 1b and a photoconductive layer 1c on a light transmissive supporting body 1a, and an exposed image is formed on the photoconductive layer 1c by this exposing means. The exposing means is constituted by using the EL head array 27 obtained by arranging EL elements 20 having a thin-film light emitting layer in a line so that the end face of the EL element 20 may be directly arranged to be able to approach or contact to the rear surface side of the photosensitive body 1 without interposing the focusing lens. An amorphous silicon (a-Si) based material is used for the photoconductive layer 1c on the photosensitive body 1 side, which receives the light output from the exposing means.
