PURPOSE: To prevent the decrease in copying efficiency by scattering of a toner and contamination on the surface of a photoreceptor, by the constitution wherein the traveling photoreceptor is moved slightly backward when the photoreceptor is stopped so that a cleaning blade contacts always with the surface of the photoreceptor where no toners exist.

CONSTITUTION: When a photoreceptor 1 rotates successvely in an arrow A direction, a friction member 7 turns together with the photoreceptor 1 and a spiral spring 6 is coiled gradually but the member 7 slips with an inside wall surface 51 at a certain point of time and the photoreceptor 1 continues to rotate so that the copying operation is executed in succession. When the copying operation ends, the photoreceptor 1 is held free, and a cleaning blade 10 is detached from the surface of the photoreceptor by the effect of a spring 11. The photoreceptor 1 is turned slightly backward in the direction opposite from the arrow A by the restoring force of the coiled spring 6. If the copying operation is resumed in such a state and the blade 10 is brought into press contact with the photoreceptor 1, the forward end of the blade 10 falls into the position on the surface of the photoreceptor 1 where there are no residual toners at all.
