PURPOSE: To obtain a proper picture by providing a device which has an image forming means with an image formation control means which controls a storing and forming means according to the state of the device.

CONSTITUTION: The direction of light 204 in every direction is shown by 204, and this light is, for example, natural light. Polarizing plates 201 and 203 are arranged so that their axes of polarization are at right angles, and the axes of polarization are shown by thin arrows. The light 204 after passing through the polarizing plate 201 reaches a liquid-crystal material (not shown in a figure) through a transparent (upper) electrode 202 which provides polarization only as shown by a thickn arrow 205 of the arrow 204. The liquid-crystal material is oriented so that liquid-crystal molecules are twisted at 90° while no voltage is applied between the transparent electrodes 202. Consequently, the light is rotated optically by 90° and directed as shown by an arrow through the lower transparent electrode 202. Then, the polarizing plate 203 has an axis of polarization as shown by a thin arrow, so light in a direction shown by a thick arrow 206 is transmitted as 207 as it is. Consequently, a stable picture is obtained.
