PURPOSE: To provide a image forming method capable of forming an image good in storage stability by simple dry processing and exposure to light of ≥500nm longer wavelength with high sensitivity and capable of multigradation recording.
CONSTITUTION: The image forming material is characterized by having on a support a layer containing a cobalt complex represented by the formula in which (lig) is a ligand coordinated by a cobalt cation; each of R1-R4 is aryl, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, or a heterocyclic group each optionally substituted, and each is not optionally substituted aryl at the same time; each of (m) and (n) is 1, 2 or 3, and when (m) is 2 or 3, each of plural lig may be same or different; X is a mono- or di-valent anion; (s) is 0, 1, or 2; each of (m), (n), and (s) is selected so as to control the valence of the complex to 0.
