To provide an image forming mechanism and an image forming apparatus capable of more accurately detecting a write-in position of a toner image formed on an image carrier.
When an inspection pattern 40 is written on an intermediate transfer belt 24, a secondary transfer roll 28 moves from a position 28A to a position 28B and separates from the intermediate transfer belt 24 in timing when the written inspection pattern 40 reaches a nip position 24A after prescribed time elapses according to conveying speed of the intermediate transfer belt 24. Thus, the inspection pattern 40 formed on the intermediate transfer belt 24 passes through a void between the secondary transfer roll 28 and the intermediate transfer belt 24, which are separated, without coming into contact with the secondary transfer roll 28 at the nip position 24A, whereby the pattern 40 formed with toner is detected by a sensor 36 without being influenced by pressure of the secondary transfer roll 28.
