To provide an image forming method and an image forming apparatus which realize an image free from failures such as a void or a gap in a letter by improving the transferring property of toner for the image forming method using an intermediate transfer body.

In the image forming method, a primary transferring process transferring a toner image visualized by developing to the intermediate transfer body, a secondary transferring process transferring the toner image transferred to the intermediate transfer body to a recording medium are provided and residue toner on an electrophotographic photoreceptor is eliminated by a cleaning process after transferring the toner image to the recording material. The surface roughness Ra of the electrophotographic photoreceptor is 0.02 to 0.1μm, the surface roughness Rz of the intermediate transfer body is 0.4μm to 2.0μm and image formation is carried out by feeding surface energy lowering agent to the surface of the electrophotographic photoreceptor.
