PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively and uniformly stick ink only to an image part without sticking the ink to a nonimage part at all and to attain an output of printed mater at the same level as that of planographic printing, in a light printing field by simultaneously executing electrification and the imagewise exposure.
SOLUTION: In an electrostatic latent image carrier 1, a photosensitive layer and a dielectric layer having nonphotosensitivity and ink repulsiveness are successively laminated on a conductive substrate. In this case, the electrification and the imagewise exposure are simultaneously executed by an electrifier 12 and an exposing device 13, from the side of the dielectric layer of the electrostatic latent image carrier 1. Then, an electrostatic latent image corresponding to the difference in capacitance between exposed and unexposed parts is formed. In the charge-applied part (the part electrified simultaneously with the exposure) of the electrostatic latent image, the surface of the dielectric layer is changed from the ink repulsiveness to ink receptiveness and the ink of the ink carrier 19 of a developing unit 14 butted to the electrostatic latent image carrier 1 is transferred. The charge quantity of an only electrified part is relatively smaller than that of the charge-applied part, so that the surface of the dielectric layer keeps the ink repulsiveness. Thus, the ink of the ink carrier 19 is not transferred.
