To prevent a transfer blur such that a transferred image looks blurred and an image flow such that an image is recorded flowingly.
A photoreceptor drum 1 where an electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface and a toner image is formed on the electrostatic latent image, is abutted on an intermediate transfer body 20 to which the toner image is temporarily transferred, with a prescribed contact pressure. The photoreceptor drum 1 and the intermediate transfer body 20 are rotated at constant relative speeds in a normal condition. In the contact area, repetitions of contact of the photoreceptor drum 1 with the intermediate transfer body 20 and separation of the drum 1 from the transfer body 20 result in generation of minute vibrations. The temperature of the contact site of the photoreceptor and intermediate transfer body is set 15 to 60°C. The standard deviation of a kinetic friction between the photoreceptor and the intermediate transfer body in the normal condition, or a kinetic friction deviation, is set smaller than the average value of the kinetic friction. This restricts minute vibrations and hence a transfer blur. Since fusion of toner on the surface of the photoreceptor and sticking of foreign matters to the surface are restricted, an image flow is also restricted.
