PURPOSE: To suppress a deterioration of toner by forming an electrostatic latent image on an image carrier having a surface whose contact angle with water is a specific value or more.
CONSTITUTION: The electrostatic latent image is formed on the image carrier 26 having the surface whose contact angle with the water is ≥90°, to form a toner layer on a toner carrier 24. The toner layer is brought into contact with the surface of the image carrier 26 on which the electrostatic latent image is formed, to develop it with the toner of the toner layer and form a toner image, while the image carrier 26 and the toner carrier 24 are alternately rotated. As a means for imparting releasability to a surface layer, that is, a means for making the contact angle with the water of the surface of the image carrier 26 to ≥90°, a means using those having low surface energy form resin constituting a film, a means applying an additive for imparting water repellent or a lipophilic property, a means for powdering/dispersing a material having high mold releasability, etc., are exemplified. Moreover, when the contact angle with the water of the surface of the image carrier 26 is <90°, the surface of the toner carrier 24 is liable to deteriorate in the endurance of a large number of sheets and the toner itself is liable to deteriorate as well.
