Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make it possible to form an image easily and at high speed, by a method wherein a local electric field is applied to a specified high molecular weight compound gel to release a liquid portion from the gel, a pigment is carried by the released liquid portion onto a printing medium, thereby transferring the pigment onto the printing medium. CONSTITUTION:A water-absorptive high molecular weight compound 02 is brought into contact with a pigment dispersion system 04, and a liquid portion is entirely absorbed from the pigment dispersion system 04 by the high molecular weight compound 02 to form a high molecular weight compound gel 02'. Next, a voltage is applied between an electrode head 07 and a conductive substrate 01, whereby the gel 02' at a part oppose to the head 07 is caused to shrink, thereby releasing the liquid portion absorbed therein. Pigment particles 05 accumulated on the gel 02' are carried by the released liquid portion to the side of the head 07, and are brought into contact with a printing medium 06 such as a paper, thereby forming a desired image on the printing medium 06.
